a tiny gift

I don't know if she suddenly released her grasp from the tangled carpet fringe while I was vacuuming, or if it had just taken years for her to make her way down through the inner workings of the la-z-boy chair... but regardless of the how, there she tumbled... at my feet. To another, she might appear to be just a bit of plastic, her expression worn off with time, but to me, a mother... this little Polly is so much more. She is a glimpse back... to laughter and little clam shell cases. She brings me back... to stretched out days of playing, with the sun streaming through the windows. She reminds me... of that little blond wisp of a girl with a smile as bright as the sun. She is... a gift to this heart... a tiny piece of yesterday I thought was long forgotten.

Unwrapping this tiny Tuesday... at Chatting at the Sky.

I remember those clam cases! So long ago... where has this girl been hiding!

If that isn't the sign of a mother. We get sentimental at the sight of a Polly Pocket! :-)
Thanks for sharing this beautiful glimpse back to those stretched out days of playing!

this tugged at my heart, Dawn. I think I'm going to feel that way about a certain stuffed carrot that a little someone currently loves. :) Such a sweet image and post.

Oh you just get it so well! I teared up this summer when my nephew came to visit and the kids brought out a bin of Franklin books and puzzles.

This is just the sweetest ever. I think you should hide her (in plain sight) in Laura's room. :)

Wonderful post Dawn--I get that sentimental thing too. Must come with the mom hormones or something...

Sometimes it's these seemingly inconsequential items that open the floodgates. Isn't it amazing that a tiny item, or a certain scent, can instantly carry you somewhere else? The other morning I was walking across the grocery store parking lot. An elderly lady walked by, the scent of Chanel #5 wafting by with her. Instantly I thought of Nana, and was transported back to fashion shows in her too-big shoes and clothes, playing dress up with my sister in Nana's bedroom on a sleep-over weekend.

Oh Polly Pocket was one of my grand daughters favorite dolls. All those little doodads slipping into cracks in the sofa or chairs. Mmmmm thanks for the memory.
